Project Overview: Saipem, through its subsidiary ERSAI Caspian Contractor LLC, has been awarded a major new Engineering & Construction contract for the Kashagan field project, located in the Kazakh waters of the Caspian Sea, valued at approximately $1.8 billion.
Client: Ersai / Saipem SpA
Location: Kazakhstan
Start Date: 2018
Contract Value: US$ 1.8Bn

This project involved two key elements a drilling platform and a drilling rig. Both elements of the contract were subject to nummerous design changes during the design process necessitating re-engineering and in some cases on site modifications to the steel structures to accomodate the revised requirements of the FEED. The main area of concern was the quantity of steel that had been used. A team was assembled in the UK to undertake a complete remeasurement exercise to determine the additional tonnage so that a claim could be quantified and submitted to the company KMG. In addition two directors and a senior delay analyst attended meetings in Italy to negotiate a claims strategy for quantum and delay at Saipems office in Almaty. Following on a report was completed to highlight the areas where the contractor had entitlement and a detailed delay analysis was carried out to asses prolongation and assosciated costs.

A series of onsite meetings were also held in Kazakhstan to interview and understand the impact of change from key memebfers of the assembly team.
